CCG mourns the passing of Yun-han Chu
A long-time CCG friend and prominent Taiwanese scholar in political science, Chu passed away at age 67
The Center for China and Globalization (CCG) is deeply saddened to learn that 朱雲漢Yun-han Chu, a professor of political science at National Taiwan University (NTU) and research fellow at Academia Sinica, has died aged 67.
Professor Chu, an Expert on CCG’s Academic Council, was a dear friend and a distinguished academic. He was elected an Academician of Academia Sinica in July 2012, the island’s highest academic honor.
In 2017, Prof. Chu visited the CCG Beijing headquarter as part of a research team on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and spoke at a CCG seminar on BRI and globalization.
The following year, he was a keynote speaker at an event (Chinese) hosted by CCG Hong Kong Council and Asia Society Hong Kong. His thought-provoking speech, "Will Pax Sinica Succeed a Receding Pax Americana?" provided valuable insights into the rapidly evolving Sino-U.S. relations.
Prof. Chu was born in Taipei in 1956 and graduated from the NTU’s department of political science in 1977, and gained his master’s degree there in 1979. In 1987, he received a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Minnesota, returning to Taiwan and joining the NTU faculty soon after.
Throughout his career, Prof. Chu specialized in the politics of Greater China, East Asian political economy, and democratization. He was widely respected across the Taiwan Strait.
CCG’s heartfelt condolences go out to Prof. Chu’s family during this difficult time. (Enditem)
Condolences to his loved ones.
May I ask if there's a recording of his speech somewhere?
